Positive Pressure Protective Suit with Internal or External Powered Air-Purifying Respirator (PAPR) for Demanding Operational Environments

A positive pressure protective suit is a specialized form of personal protective equipment (PPE) designed to protect both the body and the respiratory system from hazardous substances. These suits are engineered as fully enclosed positive pressure systems and are supplied with breathable air via a powered air-purifying respirator (PAPR) or a compressed air system with a regulating valve. The continuous positive pressure inside the suit prevents contaminated ambient air from entering the system, while exhaled air is safely discharged through dedicated exhaust valves. Positive pressure protective suits are primarily used in high-risk environments, including the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, laboratories, fire and rescue services, civil protection, and applications involving biological or radioactive hazardous materials.

The new ChemMax and MicroMax protective suit range from e-breathe combines three different material variants to provide the optimum solution for a wide variety of applications and operational environments.

These one-piece positive pressure protective suits provide reliable protection against gases, vapours, liquid chemicals, radioactive contamination, as well as solid and liquid aerosols, airborne particles, and biological infectious agents. The suits are designed for use with an approved powered air-purifying respirator (e-breathe e-Flow with EN 148-1 standard threaded connection), which continuously supplies the suit with breathable air while maintaining a constant positive pressure.

Product Overview MICROMAX, CHEMMAX 1 I 3 I 3 PRO

1) Panoramic Visor
The large panoramic visor provides a clear, distortion-free field of vision with enhanced downward visibility. This ensures excellent situational awareness at all times. A continuous airflow inside the hood prevents the visor from fogging. Two visor options are available:

1.1 Flexible film visor
1.2 Rigid panoramic visor with additional overhead visor

2) Optimized Suit Design
The generously sized hood provides ample space for safety helmets or communication systems. A spacious crotch design ensures unrestricted freedom of movement and outstanding wearing comfort.

3) Neck Seal
The adjustable, air-permeable neck seal ensures uniform air circulation throughout the hood. Excess air is directed into the body section of the suit, providing effective cooling and a comfortable internal climate. Opening the neck seal also makes removing the suit significantly easier.

4) Emergency Air Supply / Breathing Air Hose
The flexible breathing air hose can be positioned either above the hood or directly in front of the wearer’s mouth. An optional interchangeable mouthpiece can be fitted to the breathing air hose for emergency situations.

5) Emergency Exit
The integrated emergency exit allows the suit to be removed quickly and easily in critical situations, providing maximum safety in the event of sudden air supply failure or other emergencies.

6) Entry / Front Zipper
The horizontal front zipper with a double self-adhesive protective flap ensures easy donning and doffing while providing reliable protection. The suit can be removed by the wearer without assistance (although this is not recommended). For rapid removal, the rear section of the suit can also be cut open.

7) Integrated Socks with Anti-Slip Sole
The integrated socks are equipped with a durable, slip-resistant sole and are designed without an external boot flap. This allows the wearer to use safety footwear inside the integrated socks.

Integrated Socks with Boot Flap (Not Illustrated)
The integrated socks without a sole are worn inside the boot or shoe. The boot flap is worn over the boot and prevents liquids from entering the footwear.

8) Reinforced Knees & Elbows
Additional reinforcements in the knee and elbow areas protect the suit material during crawling or other demanding ground-level operations.

9) e-breathe Glove Adapter System
The e-breathe glove adapter system offers maximum flexibility. Using the Protect Clip adapter, a wide variety of gloves can be connected to the suit quickly, easily, and with a completely liquid-tight seal.

10) Internal Powered Air-Purifying Respirator (Inside Version)
The high-performance blower is worn inside the suit and supplies the wearer with breathable air via a breathing hose at selectable airflow rates of 160, 180, or 200 l/min. A convenient display window allows the wearer to monitor the filter status, remaining operating time (h/min), and current airflow rate at all times.

11) External Air Supply (PAPR / Compressed Air) (ChemMax 3 Outside Version)
The air supply is worn outside the suit. This configuration is ideal for rapid air source changes, for example in civil protection or emergency response applications, and is therefore compatible with a wide range of air supply systems. The suit can be donned and doffed quickly and easily, and the air supply can be exchanged without removing the suit.

12) Four Exhaust Valves
Two exhaust valves in the head area and two in the leg area reliably regulate the internal suit pressure. They ensure low CO₂ concentrations, prevent uncomfortable pressure fluctuations, and allow unrestricted freedom of movement. Additional splash covers made from the suit material provide enhanced protection.

1) Panoramic Visor in Various Configurations with Optional Overhead Visor
The suits are equipped with a large panoramic visor, available in two different versions: a flexible film visor or a rigid panoramic visor. Both options provide a clear, distortion-free field of vision with excellent downward visibility. An optional overhead visor can also be integrated. This additional viewing panel in the upper head area maximizes natural light inside the suit and significantly improves visibility when working in a bent-over position or while crawling.

The generously designed hood provides ample space for safety helmets or integrated communication systems without compromising freedom of movement or wearer comfort.
2) Maximum Comfort with the New T & Y Design
The newly developed T & Y suit design provides exceptional freedom of movement thanks to its generously cut crotch area. At the same time, it allows easy access to the inside of the suit—for example, to drink or to reach the emergency breathing hose. The optimized pattern minimizes creasing, making decontamination easier and more effective. In addition, the innovative design enables safe and effortless doffing after use while minimizing the risk of the wearer coming into contact with the contaminated outer surface of the suit.
4) Emergency Breathing Function with Emergency Breathing Hose
In the unlikely event of a blower failure or if the hazardous area cannot be evacuated in time, the wearer can continue to breathe through the emergency breathing hose located at the front of the suit. A mouthpiece is attached to the end of the hose, allowing the wearer to draw filtered, breathable air through the connected powered air-purifying respirator (PAPR) using their own lung power. This emergency function enables the wearer to safely exit the hazardous area.
7) Integrated Socks with Anti-Slip Sole or Boot Flap The suit is available with either integrated socks without a sole and an external boot flap, or with integrated socks featuring a durable anti-slip sole.   Option 1: The integrated socks without a sole are worn inside the boot or safety shoe. The external boot flap is worn over the boot and prevents liquids from entering the footwear.   Option 2: The integrated socks are equipped with a durable, slip-resistant sole and are designed without an external boot flap. This allows the wearer to use safety footwear inside the integrated socks.
8) Reinforced Knee and Elbow Areas
Additional material reinforcements in the knee and elbow areas protect the suit during crawling operations and provide enhanced durability in these high-wear joint zones.
9) Various Glove Options
The tapered sleeves allow a liquid-tight connection between the gloves and the suit. This seal can be achieved either by securing the gloves with sealing tape or by using the e-breathe glove adapter system. This provides maximum flexibility, allowing a wide range of glove types to be used safely for different applications while ensuring the correct glove size for each wearer.

As an option, laminated film gloves can be permanently integrated into the suit. These may be worn either on their own or as inner gloves beneath a more durable outer glove when a higher level of mechanical protection is required.

Product Description Inside Version / Outside Version

Inside Version with Internal Powered Air-Purifying Respirator (PAPR)
In the Inside version, the powered air-purifying respirator (PAPR) is worn inside the protective suit. This configuration is particularly suitable for applications where external contamination of the respiratory protection system must be kept to a minimum.

A key advantage of this version is that the PAPR is protected inside the suit. As a result, it is less exposed to direct contamination, chemical splashes, and mechanical impacts from the surrounding environment. At the same time, the integrated design creates a compact system with fewer external components attached to the suit. This is particularly beneficial when working in confined spaces, highly contaminated environments, or areas with limited access.

The Inside version is therefore the preferred choice for applications where protected placement of the respiratory protection system, minimized external contamination, and a fully enclosed protective system are the primary requirements.
Outside Version: External Powered Air-Purifying Respirator (PAPR) or Compressed Air Regulating Valve
In the Outside version, the air supply is worn outside the protective suit. This configuration is particularly advantageous when easy access to the air supply, powered air-purifying respirator (PAPR), or other system components is required.

The external positioning allows the air supply to be easily inspected, operated, or replaced without removing the protective suit. This simplifies handling during operation and is especially beneficial during extended work periods, changing operational conditions, or demanding response scenarios.

The Outside version is ideally suited for applications where accessibility, ease of operation, and flexibility of the air supply system are the primary requirements. It provides a practical solution for users who rely on a readily accessible and easily monitored respiratory air supply.
